Petrichor: The Scent of the First Rain
Pure Artisanal Mitti Attar | Extracted via Ancient Deg-Bhapka Distillation
The Fragrance There is no scent more universally beloved than the earth's exhale after a long dry spell. Petrichor captures the exact, intoxicating aroma of the first monsoon rain hitting sun-baked soil. This is our signature Mitti Attar—a deeply grounding, nostalgic, and meditative fragrance. It is not just a perfume; it is bottled nostalgia, instantly transporting you to the quiet, cool relief of a sudden downpour.
A Legacy of Liquid Gold Crafting the scent of rain is an art few can master. Since 1818, the lineage of Lala Makkhulal Ayodhya Prasad has perfected this elemental alchemy in Kannauj, India’s Perfume Capital. Petrichor represents over two centuries of unbroken craftsmanship, honoring our roots while presenting this ancient treasure to the modern world.
The Ancient Deg-Bhapka Method To capture the scent of the earth, we must extract it from the earth itself. We use the labor-intensive Deg-Bhapka hydro-distillation method, a process unchanged for generations.
-
The Deg: We source pure clay from local riverbanks, baking it into earthen discs. These half-baked discs are broken down and placed into massive copper cauldrons (degs), sealed tightly with mud and cotton.
-
The Fire: Slowly heated over a traditional wood fire, the baked clay releases its raw, earthy essence into the rising steam.
-
The Bhapka: This fragrant steam travels through a bamboo pipe (chonga) into a receiver pot (bhapka) resting in a cooling water bath. Here, the essence of the earth condenses and is traditionally captured in a pure botanical base, binding the delicate scent of rain into liquid form.

How to Wear Apply a single drop to your pulse points—the inner wrists, the base of the throat, and behind the ears. Because Petrichor is a pure attar, it responds to your body heat, wearing close to the skin like a calming, personal aura throughout the day.
